Part 1, The Engine Sheds and their Allocations

Visit a part of the country seldom seen through the lens in a celebration of the area in steam days. Over 200 photographs bring the engine sheds of the area back to life. Full steam allocation list included post grouping. Part 1 of a series covering railway activities from Mablethorpe and Louth to New Holland and Barnetby.

Part 2, Stations

In this 2nd part of the series the author tours the stations of the area as they were in the days of steam. A history in pictures it covers the loop line to Mablethorpe and Willoughby to Grimsby as well as the ex Great Central lines in the area. 270 photographs plus maps means this book covers all known stations plus some proposed but never built.

Part 3, More than Railways (Docks, Shipping and Trams)

This book looks at how the railways developed trade through investing in and building docks and creating a shipping fleet that traded throughout Western Europe. Illustrated with photographs, maps and plans the development of the docks at Grimsby and Immingham are extensively covered as is New Holland and the proposed dock at Sutton on Sea. The shipping fleet, including the Humber Ferries, is listed and complemented with photographs. The final chapter covers the Immingham trams with extensive photographic coverage along the entire length of the line.

Part 4, Comforts and Fish

This book is a photographic review of the different types of train working through the area. Separate chapters cover passenger and freight workings, excursion traffic and day-to-day general duties such as shunting and light engine working. The final chapter looks at unusual or rare visitors. All chapters are supported by timetables, schedules and excursion listings. There is also an appendix showing a 24-hour view of the working timetable at Grimsby Town in 1958.

Part 5, The World beyond Wrawby (and South from Willoughby)

This book concludes the story of railways in the north eastern part of Lincolnshire with a review of the lines serving the area. Covered are the lines west from Wrawby Junction (including detailed allocations for Keadby and Frodingham) and south from Willoughby as far as Boston. The lines to Skegness, Horncastle, Spilsby, Bardney and Kirkstead-Little Steeping are also featured. The book ends with pictorial chapters covering Immingham locos working outside of the area and a collection of photographs omitted in earlier books due to lack of space.
