Description

Western Times No 5 is now available. In 80 packed sides this issue covers a broad sweep of over 100 years starting with ‘Temperence on the Broad Gauge’ through to the new 1960s diesel depot at Reading – and several points in between! We have for example the first part of a major article on Cornish China Clay, putting Marlborough on the railway map, the daylight 47 class, again the first part on the history and development of the Hawksworth coach, recycling Great Western style, and a most readable account of the workings at Over Junction (Gloucester) signal box by someone who was there – former signalman Michael Jackson. There are also our regular features including a book review – Great Western of course, Bulletin No 4 from the Great Western Trust, and ‘Guard’s Compartment’. I love this magazine. Personally it covers my era well, 1950’s to the end of the hydraulics. Always look forward to the next publication. It gets 5 stars from me.

Western Times Issue 5 would give a 5 Star rating – as ever it is very well researched and the content is really interesting, so much information for example the post-war Hawksworth coach designs – brilliant, the photographs are top notch especially of the 47xxs – I’m hooked!
