Seasonally appropriate for this issue, there is an extended account of the challenges of working services under extreme adversity during the brutal winter of 1962/ 3. Enthusiasts of a certain vintage will recall how the snow and numbing cold arrived just after Christmas and seemed intent on remaining for ever yet against the odds, railwayman succeeded in keeping trains running to sustain a vital service. In contrast, there is an enquiry into the oddities of catering vehicle movements on Sundays.
