The mission to maintain diversity in the columns of Western Times continues, kicking off with a survey of the Kingsbridge Branch. Was there ever a route better tailored to suit the needs of the preservation movement – efficient platform interchange at Brent, spacious well-appointed branch terminus and beautiful country served by quaint stations in between? Definitely out of the ordinary is an account of how vinyl records (and the associated recording wizardry) were deployed in preserving vivid train noises – all GWR naturally. Goings on at three country stations are described. One explores the causes of an accident at Clutton. The second is a personal account of the station clerk’s duties at Campden – humdrum, unsung but nonetheless important work discharged with pride and dedication. The third talks about water and Kemble, and of course includes that famous Grade 2 listed tank. On the subject of water, the means of crossing it at Saltash is also reviewed.

This is the first Western Times I have purchased as it contained an article on my favourite West country branch line, the Kingbridge branch and I certainly was not
dissappointed. Very interesting with photos, some I had not seen before as were the other articles too. Looking forward to the next edition! Highly recommend!
