A well-formatted selection of photographs from the Neville Stead Collection, concisely illustrating the everyday aspects industrial railways ignored by the majority of enthusiasts, pre-occupied with recording the final days of main line steam.
The biggest surprise is the number of elderly locomotives retired from main line activities to eke out their final days in the grime of colliery yards, steelworks, quarries, power stations and other insalubrious industrial locations. Ranging from the Taff Vale Railway to the Glasgow & South Western Railway, these old-timers are depicted, amongst others, in their new environment.
Thoroughly researched captions together with personalised notes make this album a very worthy addition to any steam buff’s nostalgia library.
