The Lost Locomotives of Barry
Price range: £12.50 through £13.50
Whilst over 200 locomotives were rescued from Woodham’s scrapyard at Barry 75 BR steam locomotives, 4 diesel locomotives and a handful of ex MOD steam locomotives met their end here. 68 of those which did not survive are illustrated within whilst they were still in BR service. Owing to a policy of concentrating on the vast amount of wagons and other rolling stock that were easier to cut, Woodham’s inadvertently provided a valuable breathing space during which societies could raise funds to purchase their chosen locomotive often many years after they first entered the yard.
